Montana – the Last Best Place. Big sky, rocky mountains, and rolling rivers. The same landscape that gives Montana its legendary beauty also creates limitations for pediatric medical care. The majority of our state is rural, which means families with a sick child must travel to metropolitan areas for treatment. Our mission is to help these families get there.
WHO WE HELP
We assist Montana children ages 0 – 18 years with medical conditions that require treatment outside their community. The average age of children we help is 6 years old.
Below is a list of medical conditions that they face:
Leukemia | Blount’s Disease |
Cancer | Brittle Bone Disease |
Brain Tumors | Spinal Muscular Atrophy |
Organ Transplants | Hemophilia |
Congenital Heart Conditions | Microdeletion Syndrome |
DiGeorge Syndrome | Cystic Fibrosis |
Bilateral Hearing Loss | Crohn’s Disease |
Scoliosis | Pancreatitis |
OVER THE RIVER & THROUGH THE WOODS TO TREATMENT WE GO…..
The majority of the families we help must travel outside of Montana. Usually, the treatment is located in a children’s hospital of a metropolitan area. The top destinations for care are
- Seattle
- Spokane
- Salt Lake City
- Denver
OKAY, THEN WHAT?
Once at a pediatric care facility, either insurance or the children’s hospital will have financial resources to pay for medical treatment. For the Children, Inc. picks up where insurance leaves off. We assist with travel expenses including transportation, lodging, and meals. The majority of our families will travel not only once but have to make three visits on average during their child’s illness. With our help, travel is one less thing the family has to worry about.
